"Should I be worried about you?" he asked quietly.
Okay, what did that mean? Worried how? Worried because she was still trying to deal with Ruby’s death? Or worried because she had kissed another man? Except he couldn’t know about that, unless he had been listening outside the door, and even then, his hearing would have to be acute.
"What do you mean?" she asked anyway.
He drew in a deep frustrated breath and frowned at her, his nostrils flared and the muscles in his jaw clenched. He narrowed his eyes and it was as though he saw straight into her soul.
Oh my God, he knows.
He knows!
Feeling the panic rise in her belly, she shook her head and stepped close. "I’m not myself today. I kind of snapped at Miss Evans. I didn’t mean to. Then Kevin wanted to see how I was because he had heard about Ruby." She was babbling now and she didn’t want to stop until she had told him everything. "And then I almost cried, and he hugged me to make me feel better. And then… And then we… He…" Oh shit, this was harder than she had thought.
"You kissed," Theo supplied. His eyes weren’t gray anymore, they were silver, and looked as cold as a winter’s day.
She couldn’t look at him anymore and lowered her head after nodding. He took another deep breath and gripped her shoulders.
"That’s all, isn’t it?"
"Yes." She met his cold stare again. "I told Kevin I didn’t want him. That I only wanted you."
"Good." His voice became hard. "In the future, if you are having a difficult time and you need help, you call me." He paused. "Do you understand, Drew?"
"Yes and I will." Uncertain, she stepped closer and he jerked her the rest of the way to his body. He nuzzled her hair and pressed a tender kiss on the top of her head. Then he lifted her face and kissed her forehead, then her cheek, and the corner of her mouth. He was kissing everywhere Kevin had touched or kissed her. But how could he know where Kevin had touched her? Theo hadn’t been in the room. It was impossible. Or maybe the guilt over her actions was still riding her hard, playing tricks with her emotions. She was probably reading too much into it.
He cupped the sides of her face and angled it up to meet his. His breath warmed her skin and she shivered as she waited for him to kiss her. "I want only you, Drew. There is nobody else on the planet for me. There is only you."
Her heart squeezed as her veins flooded with a sensation that bordered on love.
Love.
She was falling in love with Theo.
She took a breath and enjoyed the way her body tingled with a warmth only he could cause. Her stomach turned into a mushy knot and she began to feel lightheaded. She had been in love a long time ago, when she was young. She always remembered how great the feeling was, but this awareness Theo stirred in her went way beyond anything she had ever experienced. It frightened her but she allowed it to sweep her up and carry her away.
With anticipation building, Drew wove her arms around his neck, parting her lips, then Theo was stealing her breath. He swept his tongue into her waiting mouth and skimmed over hers. Then he flicked the tip lightly against hers, teasing. The caress was lovely—the mixture of the moist heat of his mouth and the sweet taste of his tongue was addictive. Moaning, she pressed her lips firmly against his, needing more of him, all of him. Her body heated. Her nipples tightened, and her core, wet and aching, demanded him. Only he could satisfy this hunger growing inside her.
His kiss became overwhelming and hot. So hot. "Theo." She breathed heavy as he nibbled on her neck. "You’re working."
There was a low groan, or it could have been a growl. "I’m on a break."
She giggled just before she was suddenly weightless and pinned against the wall.
